Notts County’s survival hopes suffered a major blow as MK Dons surged to 2-1 victory at Meadow Lane.
Second-half strikes from David Wheeler and Chuks Aneke consigned County to the foot of the Football League once again, as Ben Barclay netted a late consolation.
Dons took advantage of Bury’s slip-up at Newport to return to third, bouncing back from successive losses.
With their league status hanging in the balance Neal Ardley’s side came out firing in the first half, but failed to create a meaningful chance.
Down the other end Kieran Agard fired wide from inside the box before Jake Hesketh missed the target when under pressure.
Just after the hour mark, Wheeler rose highest to head home Dean Lewington’s pin-point corner.
Jon Stead almost levelled proceedings after being picked out by Craig Mackail-Smith, with Lee Nicholls scrambling to claw his effort away 10 minutes after the opener.
Aneke wrapped the game up in the 85th minute with a great solo goal. He picked the ball up in his own half and beat a defender before smashing home to secure the points.
Barclay pulled one back late on for County but it was too little too late.
