Hearts talisman Kyle Lafferty will miss the Jambos’ William Hill Scottish Cup showdown with city rivals Hibernian after seeing his red card appeal thrown out by Hampden disciplinary chiefs.
The Northern Irishman was sent off against Aberdeen last month following a late lunge on Dons midfielder Graeme Shinnie.
The 30-year-old decided to challenge referee John Beaton’s straight red-card decision but it was rejected after a hearing at the National Stadium on Tuesday morning.
Lafferty – who attended the hearing in person – will now miss the derby cup tie at Tynecastle on January 21.
His two-game ban also means he will sit out Hearts’ Ladbrokes Premiership clash at Hamilton three days later.
Beaton reached straight for his top pocket when Lafferty slid in late on Shinnie with just two minutes of his side’s 0-0 Pittodrie draw with Aberdeen remaining.
