Joe Wheatley scored seven minutes into stoppage time to earn Darlington an FA Cup first-round replay in a thrilling 2-2 draw at League Two strugglers Walsall.
The National League North side had led through Omar Holness’ early goal but Walsall scored twice in the final five minutes of normal time despite Dan Scarr’s red card.
The visitors also went down to 10 men with Ben Hedley’s 90th-minute dismissal but Wheatley tucked home Osagi Bascome’s late, late free-kick to equalise.
Holness drilled Darlington ahead after 17 minutes, firing home after Jack Rose had thwarted Stephen Thompson’s initial shot.
Walsall wasted chances to level as Rory Gaffney fired wide from close range after Wes McDonald’s 25-yarder rattled the crossbar and Elijah Adebayo twice blazed over when it seemed easier to score.
After the break, Wheatley’s long-range strike was tipped on to the bar by Rose before Scarr was sent off for two bookings.
Caolan Lavery levelled for the 10 men from close range after 86 minutes and the Saddlers led three minutes later as keeper Liam Connell punched Alfie Bates’ corner into his own net.
Hedley then saw a second yellow after a clash with Adebayo, who blazed another great chance over before Wheatley’s last-gasp equaliser.
