Body found in river is confirmed as missing man

The body of a missing man has been found in a river in Dumfriesshire.

Police have identified the remains, pulled from the River Nith in Dumfries, as those of missing 41-year-old Bryan Cowie.

Emergency services were initially alerted to reports of a man falling into the water near the rowing club at Greensands at about 9pm on Sunday, February 5.

Searches were carried out of the river involving Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Nith Inshore Rescue Service and a helicopter.

Mr Cowie’s body was recovered from the river, near Kingholm Quay, at around 9.30am on Saturday February 11.

Police Scotland said there would appear to be “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding his death.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
