A Danish inventor is going on trial accused of murdering a Swedish reporter on his private submarine.
Peter Madsen is alleged to have tied up and tortured journalist Kim Wall before either cutting her throat or strangling her during a trip last August.
The 47-year-old, whose trial starts in Copenhagen on Thursday, is charged with murder, dismemberment and indecent handling of a corpse for the way he disposed of Ms Wall’s body.
Madsen has denied murder.
His defence lawyer, Betina Hald Engmark, told TV2 on Thursday that he maintains she died accidentally inside the submarine.
He has admitted throwing her body parts into the sea.
The prosecution claims Ms Wall’s murder was premeditated because Madsen took tools he did not usually take on board the submarine.
The trial at Copenhagen’s City Court is expected to last until April 25.
