Police are appealing for witnesses after a five-vehicle crash left a woman with life-threatening injuries and several others hurt.
The collision, which involved three cars and two motorcycles, happened at about 4.30pm on Monday on the A7066 at the junction with the B792 in Bathgate.
Three people were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries while one person with minor injuries was treated at the scene by ambulance crew.
The road was closed for around eight hours to allow a full scene investigation to take place.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them as they investigate the incident in the West Lothian town.
Inspector Andy Gibb, of Lothian Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a serious collision involving a number of vehicles and we are looking for anybody who was driving on the road or witnessed the incident to contact police.
“One woman has sustained life threatening injuries and I would urge anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.
“In particular, if there were any vehicles in the area at the time that may have dashcam footage that could help officers, I would ask that you get in touch.”
