INDEPENDENCE would lead to a new Scottish industrial revolution, according to a top Aberdeen academic.
Speaking at a pro-Yes Business for Scotland event, University of Aberdeen Vice-Principal Bryan MacGregor said he believes independence is the only way for Scottish businesses, universities and the economy to flourish.
Prof MacGregor, who is also Head of the College of Physical Sciences, said Westminster has failed to support Scotland’s excellent research and development (R&D) potential.
He said: “This is undermining the long-term competitiveness of all of the UK and so, for research-rich Scotland, represents a shameful waste of potential.”
First Minister Alex Salmond backed Prof MacGregor’s stance.
But Better Together leader Alistair Darling said independence would put jobs at risk.
