MORE than 110 people have been evicted from Aberdeen City Council properties because of rent arrears since 2004.
Figures obtained via Freedom of Information show 117 people were removed from their local authority homes in the city because they owed money in rent.
A further 10 were evicted for antisocial behaviour.
Councillor Ross Thomson who has previously highlighted concerns about cash owed from rent said the figures demonstrate the “unfair” system in which council tenants can refuse to pay.
City council housing convener Cllr Neil Cooney added: “We are working very hard on the rent arrears issue, but, sadly for some, court proceedings become the wake-up call.
“We prefer to sustain our tenancies and have one of the best records in Scotland in doing so. The number of evictions has been kept to a minimum.”
