The long wait for the eighth and final series of Game Of Thrones has finally come to an end for fans.
Viewers keen to find out who will sit on the Iron Throne tuned in for the latest instalment of the hit TV series, which last aired in August 2017.
Fans shared their excitement for the start of the series, with Emmanuel Hanson tweeting: “After waiting patiently, the #GameofThrones is on. This is the feeling shared across #GOT lovers.”
The first episode of the HBO series aired at the same time in the US and the UK, meaning British viewers had to stay up until 2am to watch. But a second screening was planned at the more forgiving time of 9pm on Monday for those who couldn’t stay awake.
Those who did make the earlier viewing started to share their opinions of the plot online, making it a minefield of spoilers.
Sean Previl tweeted: “You know how popular #GameofThrones is when it’s the ONLY thing trending worldwide.”
For the devoted fans who stayed up into the small hours, it could be a long day at work on Monday.
Zak Bland tweeted: “Absolutely shattered and was late for work, but at least I got to watch Game of Thrones last night.”
And the problem of avoiding of those spoilers seems to be universal, with German football club Borussia Dortmund tweeting: “Going through my timeline trying to avoid spoilers #GameOfThrones.”
