A north-east MSP has lent her support to a call for creating two sports pitches at a local school.
Maureen Watt, pictured, who represents Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, wrote to Aberdeenshire Council chief executive Jim Savege regarding the proposed upgrade to Portlethen Academy’s synthetic sport pitches.
Ms Watt has supported finding a two-pitch solution in order to recognise the needs of both hockey and football teams.
Her request joins calls from Portlethen Sports Club for a second artificial pitch to be made.
In his response, Mr Savege said: “We recognise the aspiration of the local football community for a synthetic pitch that can accommodate competitive football (3G) and have identified a number of possible sites and potential funding for a second site.
It is our intention to work with the local football community supporting fundraising towards a second facility primarily for football, we would anticipate applications to external funders such as sportscotland.”
