Cove Rangers boss John Sheran is looking for a strong display from his players in tonight’s friendly with Forfar at Station Park.
The match is the Highland League champions’ last before making their debut in the revamped League Cup against Raith Rovers on Friday, which is also being staged at Forfar’s ground.
Cove were forced to return earlier than normal to prepare for their group matches through July, against Raith, Ross County Alloa and Montrose.
They managed to fit in closed doors friendly games with Dundee United and amateur side Echt, but the clash with Forfar will give Sheran more of an idea of who in his squad is most ready for Friday’s cup tie.
He said: “It will all be about assessing fitness levels and judging who will be best suited for what is a big match for us against Raith.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to test ourselves against clubs from the top level of the Scottish game.
“We are also eager to give a good account of ourselves and the Highland League.”
Sheran feels star summer signing Mitch Megginson, pictured, will be a major asset in the League Cup ties. The former Aberdeen striker joined Cove from Alloa. Sheran said: “Mitch has played in the two top leagues in Scotland.
“His experience will help those in the squad playing opposition from those levels for the first time.”
