Gymnasts will be doing somersaults as a new national-standard facility opens in the North-east.
Oldmeldrum-based Laura’s Gym have put up a six-figure sum to set up the purpose-built centre.
The facility will be one of the best in Scotland and will offer gymnastics and wrestling coaching programmes.
Laura’s Gym is owned by Laura and Vio Etko – both of whom know a thing or two about their sports.
Laura, 34, was a former international gymnast while Vio, 38, won wrestling bronze for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
An open day is planned for Friday to let the public see the facility.
After setting up the organisation in 2008, Laura’s Gym coaches more than 1,000 children and adults each week.
Laura wants the facility to act as a springboard for North-east people to take up gymnastics.
She said: “We are incredibly proud to have reached this stage and are immensely grateful to our members, whose support has made it possible.
“Our new gymnastics centre is entirely self-funded, as we strongly believe that there is a local demand for it.
“The new gymnasium will enable a greater number of young people to access our existing gymnastics and wrestling programmes, as well as allowing us to introduce additional complementary activities and classes.”
The centre includes a full-size spring floor, balance beams, uneven bars and vault apparatus.
There will also be spaces for wrestling, yoga, tumbling and trampolining.
It is the first facility of its kind in the North-east and one of only a handful in all of Scotland.
Classes will be open to children as young as 18 months old.
But the team of 18 also work with some of the region’s top prospects.
And there are also hopes the 1,092-square-metre facility can serve as acompetition venue to show their skills.
She added: “It also has the potential to act as a host venue for regional and national competitive gymnastics events, which we hope will have spin-off benefits for the North-east.”
Members of the public will be able to view the facility and reserve places on a series of taster sessions between 9am and 6pm on Friday.
