Scottish wrestling star Grado today insisted his tag-team partnership with WWE legend Santino Marella is a coup for Aberdeen-based Wrestlezone.
World of Sport wrestler Grado will team up with former two-time WWE continental champion Marella at Aberdeen Anarchy X at the Beach Ballroom on Saturday.
The duo will face Krieger and Kid Fite in a tag-team match as part of an action-packed bill to mark the 10th anniversary of Wrestlezone.
Grado will also host a one-man show at the Northern Hotel in Aberdeen on Friday.
Former ICW world heavyweight champion Grado said: “Santino Marella is one of my heroes and I cannot wait to tag with him.
“Santino is a wrestler who inspired me. For a star like Santino to come to Aberdeen is a huge occasion as he doesn’t wrestle much now and not many fans get the opportunity to see him.
“He has not had that many matches since leaving WWE so this will be one of his first big appearances.
“Tagging with Santino is a great match and the fans in Aberdeen will absolutely love it.”
Marella is also a former WWE tag-team champion.
Another WWE wrestling legend, Chavo Guerrero Jr, has also been confirmed for Aberdeen Anarchy. The four-time WWE cruiserweight champion will face Bingo Ballance.
Grado has graced Wrestlezone events for years and is a hugely popular draw with ring fans.
Grado said: “The Aberdeen Anarchy shows at the Beach Ballroom are one of the biggest of the year and I get so excited about them.
“The crowds are brilliant and everybody is always up for it.
“Wrestlezone always bring American legends across for Aberdeen Anarchy which is great.
“One of the biggest fights I ever had against an American was with Scotty 2 Hotty at Aberdeen Anarchy back in 2014. Last year I tagged with Rikishi at the Beach Ballroom.
There is always something special that happens at Aberdeen Anarchy but this year is definitely the biggest one.”
Hailing from “the tap end of Stevenston”, Grado began wrestling more than a decade ago and lifted the Insane Championship Wrestling heavyweight title.
He also secured the ICW tag-team belt and has starred in Canadian-based Total Nonstop Impact Wrestling.
The 30-year-old said: “When I started wrestling I just wanted one match to be able to say I was a wrestler.
“To get to the point where I can travel the world is brilliant.
“I have wrestled in America, Canada and will be wrestling in Mexico next month.
“However, the best shows in the world are always in Scotland which is where I have the most fun.”
With the catch-phrase “It’s yersel”, Grado has become one of the most recognisable and popular stars in British wrestling.
He is part of the World of Sport show on ITV that broadcasts on a Saturday. It was trialled as a two-hour special last year with Grado winning the heavyweight title.
World of Sport wrestling had been a huge television hit from 1965 to 1985 and Grado is proud to be part of the resurrection.
He said: “I am loving the World of Sport. Getting British wrestling back on terrestrial television is one of the biggest accomplishments as a wrestler.
“For years we have fought to try to get back on the telly.
“All those years wrestling up and down the country in social clubs and town halls in front of 30 or 40 folk to get the chance to wrestle on ITV is brilliant.
“It is something we are all proud of and want to make sure it is not just back for one series but to become a regular thing.”
The headline bout at Aberdeen Anarchy is a steel cage match between holder Shawn Johnson and rival Damien, for the Undisputed Championship belt.
Grado said: “You don’t get as many cage matches in the UK so this is a big thing to happen.
“I wrestled a cage match at Wembley Arena in front of 9,000 fans against Eli Drake from TNA a few years ago and it is probably the biggest thing I have done.”
Grado has branched into drama and comedy with roles in River City, Scot Squad and Two Doors Down.
Before the Aberdeen Anarchy action he will host An Evening with Grado at the Northern Hotel on Friday (8pm).
He said: “It is a show with tales from the tap end, where I talk about my experiences in wrestling River City, Scot squad, TNA and ICW. Fans will also be able to ask questions on the night.”
