A talented young gymnast from Aberdeen picked up a gold senior medal at a major event in Birmingham.
Kim Beattie, of Banchory Trampoline and DMT Gymnastics Club, claimed top spot in the hotly-contested senior women’s DMT category at the 2018 Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini Trampoline British Championships.
Beattie, pictured, clinched gold with an impressive score of 134.200.
She said: “I feel amazing. It’s been such a tough year battling with injury.
“I’ve lost some skills and it’s just been really tough.
“To finish the season off like this, it’s been amazing. I’ve put in so much hard work and I’m so proud of myself.
“To think I’m the best in Britain makes me so proud.”
Bridge of Don’s Beattie is also up for Sports Achiever of the Year – Student at Aberdeen’s Sports Awards on October 4.
The major event in Birmingham saw over 500 participants from 80 clubs take part in the two-day gymnastics spectacular, with youngsters travelling from all across the UK to compete.
The ages of the gymnasts taking part ranged from just nine years old to 32-year-old former World No 1 Kat Driscoll.
Competitors also included Team GB’s Olympic silver medallist Bryony Page.
Page was the first British gymnast to win an Olympic medal, claiming silver at Rio 2016.
She said: “The talent on show is phenomenal. It is wonderful to see so many youngsters showing off their skills.”
Jane Allen, chief executive of British Gymnastics, said: “I am thrilled to see so many talented athletes perform at such a high level in Birmingham.
“It is great to see so many of the established stars taking part and exciting to see the depth of young talent coming through.
“The sport has a very bright future and Birmingham has once again staged an outstanding event.”
Ten clubs from Scotland participated in the British Champs over the course of the weekend, equating to approximately 11% of all clubs competing.
Over 3,000 people attended the event, making it the most successful British Championships for the last five years.
The next major British Gymnastics event is the Gymnastics World Cup in Birmingham on Saturday March 23 2019 where the best nations in the world will take part.
