Wrestlezone: Damien says all the omens point to him staying Undisputed champ

Reigning Undisputed Wrestlezone champion Damien today warned he will retain his belt in a title rematch with Shawn Johnson.

The two go head to head at the Summerhill Showdown tonight in a hotly-anticipated meeting just three months after their classic clash.

Damien, aka The Revolutionary, claimed the title from Johnson in a memorable encounter at Halloween Hijinks.

Now they go for Wrestlezone’s top honour again tonight at the Summerhill Hotel, and Damien is confident he will retain the belt.

He said: “Last year was a turning point for me and winning the championship again was a new career high.

“I’m enjoying life at the top of the tree, but I know this makes me a target.

“Shawn might have his buddies to do his dirty work for him, but I am relying on myself and my skills to get the job done.

“The revolution in WrestleZone has only just begun and Sterling Oil will find that out.”

Damien severed his allegiance with Johnson’s team Sterling Oil last year and that move was the catalyst to his ascent to undisputed glory.

The title showdown with Johnson in October was the highlight of the Wrestlezone year and received a deserved standing ovation from the crowd at Kincorth.

Since winning at Halloween Hijinx, Damien has defended his title against top challengers such as Andy Wild and Nathan North. Damien said: “I know Shawn will have regrouped and will have a plan that will be even better than the one he had at Halloween.

“But despite that plan he and the rest of Sterling Oil will make mistakes because they are too arrogant and too self-obsessed not to.

“Shawn and the rest of his buddies will walk into Summerhill Showdown and have that one chance to get this title back from me.

“He will fail and he will fall.”

Sterling Oil grappler Johnson has the support of Richard R Russell’s men, and past events suggest William Sterling, Alan Sterling and Crusher Craib will get involved in the title fight at some point.

Ultimately, Damien’s title defence could also come down to whether he can successfully fend off the combined attentions of Johnson and his Sterling team-mates.

Johnson said: “I admit I dropped the ball at Halloween Hijinx and underestimated Damien. But not this time.

“This time I am ready for Damien. At Summerhill Showdown I take back my Undisputed Championship.”

In another title match, Zach Dynamite will defend his Tri-Nations title against Aspen Faith.

Dynamite, aka Fully Loaded, secured the title last year from Faith. He said: “This is my very first piece of gold in wrestling and I am not done yet.

“Aspen Faith is a tremendous wrestler and I am ready for the test he will bring.

“I want to get 2018 off to the best possible start and score another pinfall over Faith and cement myself at the top of the division.”

This year marks WrestleZone’s 10th anniversary and culminates in September’s Aberdeen Anarchy showcase at the Beach Ballroom.

The Summerhill event will also feature the return of Scottish funnyman Grado – star of BBC’s Scot Squad TV show.

In a tag team title challenge, holders The Rejected face Andy Wild and Jason Ree.

There is also women’s action with Sammii Jayne and Leah Owens going head to head.

Grado resumes his partnership with Mr P and they will be joined by Bryan Tucker as the trio take on former tag team champions the Sterling Brothers and Vintage Nathan North.

WrestleZone host Martyn Clunes added: “With this being WrestleZone’s 10th year in the Granite City, we are ready to make this the best year yet.”
