City judo club’s medal haul in trip to Livingston tournament

Aberdeen Judo Club members have grappled their way to glory.

The club’s special needs class, which trains at the Granite City’s Beach Leisure Centre on Monday nights between 6.30pm and 8pm, saw members take home four medals at the ESSN Championships in Livingston.

Michael Smith’s brilliant performance saw him win his first gold as the martial artists headed south with coach Steve Carson.

Meanwhile, students Matthew Holland and John Kane both won bronze – John also earned his black belt in judo at the event.

Zoe Kane took home a silver medal.

The Aberdeen Judo Club special needs class are always on the look-out for new members and are open to anyone who is interested in trying out the sport.
