Aberdeen Assassin Lee McAllister’s 10th round win over Englishman Danny Williams – the man who once knocked out “Iron” Mike Tyson – is making headlines the world over.
McAllister, 35, who started his career at lightweight, fought eight divisions above this weight class against Williams, 45, at the Beach Ballroom last night and still gave his opponent four stone of an advantage.
After several knockdowns, Williams’ corner threw in the towel.
The fight was for the World Boxing Union (WBU) heavyweight title and makes McAllister the first lightweight champion to win a heavyweight world crown.
So far, the unlikely victory against the “Brixton Bomber”, who fought Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight strap earlier in his career, has been picked up by news websites in Ghana, America and was one of the top stories on the BBC Sport website at home in the UK.
