Formartine player-manager Paul Lawson is expecting strong performances from his players against Rothes as they try to book their place in the team for Tuesday’s Scottish Cup fourth round tie.
United face the Speysiders at North Lodge Park tomorrow before facing Cove in the Scottish Cup at the same venue on Tuesday.
The winner of that tie will face Falkirk at home in round five.
Lawson, pictured, believes his troops will be out to impress him tomorrow in a bid to secure their place in his team for Tuesday’s game.
He said: “From the boys’ point of view the Scottish Cup tie is a game that everyone wants to be part of.
“It doesn’t take a genius to work out that if you put in a good performance on Saturday you’ve got a good chance of playing on Tuesday.
“We’ve got to look at it that way, it’s one game at a time, but at the same time you are still looking at that and want to go into it in good form.”
Formartine are currently fourth in the Highland League.
Tomorrow, third-placed Inverurie are playing in the Highland League Cup with second-placed Fraserburgh playing fifth-placed Forres. Lawson knows victory would consolidate their place in the top four as they aim for Challenge Cup qualification for next season.
He added: “I think the plan when we took over was to do that, and hopefully win a trophy along the way which we’ve done.
“There’s another one up for grabs (Highland League Cup) and we want to do well in that competition also.
“So that’s all still to play for and in terms of the league it’s your bread and butter and you want to finish as high in that as possible and probably finish better than we did last season (fourth).”
