After their first league defeat of the season Peterhead’s Jason Brown says they need to remember the quality they’ve got and bounce back.

The Blue Toon were below par in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Edinburgh City.

It was a day when nothing seemed to click for the Buchan team with almost all the players falling short of their usual standards.

Brown was disappointed by the loss to the capital team.

However, the 22-year-old says Peterhead need to move on quickly as they face Irish side Bohemians this weekend in the Irn-Bru Challenge Cup.

The defender said: “It’s massively disappointing what happened on Saturday.

“It’s a tough one to take, but it’s the ups and downs of football and we’ve got to take it on the chin.

“We have to move forward and hopefully get back to winning ways.

“It’s a sore one right now for us to take, we’ll analyse it and then move forward and put it behind us.

“Bohemians are a full-time side, but we know the quality we’ve got.

“It didn’t click as much as we wanted, we had a lot of the ball, but it was one of those days that happens to every team.

“We just have to take the highs with the lows and move on to next week.”

Peterhead’s next fixture is to some extent a step into the unknown.

At this moment the Blue Toon don’t know a huge amount about League of Ireland side Bohs.

Many within Scottish football feel that sides from other countries should not be playing in a Scottish cup competition. Brown can see their point, but from his perspective the main thing that matters is trying to get through to the third round and recover from the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat to Edinburgh.

He added: “We don’t know much about them, we might do some research during the week but we don’t know anything about them at the moment.

“But right now we’re disappointed after Saturday.

“It’s different this competition. I’ve never heard of it before, other teams playing in a Scottish cup. There’s a lot of split opinions but for us as players it’s another game and we look forward to it.

“It’s good to win games and get through. We always want to win so we’ll come back and be positive.

“Saturday was a wee blip but we build ourselves back up for next week.”
