Aberdeen’s Rachel Corsie is set to skipper Scotland’s women next month in their friendly against world champions the United States of America.
World Cup 2019 qualifiers Scotland, skippered by centre-back Corsie, will welcome the USA to Paisley’s Simply Digital Arena on Tuesday, November 14 (7.15pm kick-off).
It’ll be Scotland’s first fixture at home since their historic win over Albania in Shkoder sealed their place in France.
The last time they were in Paisley, they attracted a record 4,098 fans as they beat much-fancied Switzerland to set the scene for their Albania triumph.
The USA have won the World Cup three times, along with four Olympic golds.
Their squad features stars of the women’s game like Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd.
Scots head coach Shelley Kerr said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the USA to Scotland this November.
“It represents a real opportunity for our players to test themselves against the best in the
world as we prepare for our first FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer.
“The USA’s record in major tournaments speaks for itself, and the players cannot wait to go
up against them.
“We’re also delighted to be returning to Paisley for the fixture. Our match against
Switzerland was one of the greatest occasions I have been involved in during my career –
the support from the crowd was tremendous, and I’m looking forward to getting back there
and hearing it once again.
“Having the best team in the world come to Scotland is fantastic and is a measure of how far
we’ve come, when we’re attracting this level of opposition.
“Showcasing some of the finest players the women’s game has ever seen in Scotland is
another opportunity to inspire the nation and young aspiring footballers.
“Since we qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Albania there has been a real increase in the interest of the team and all of the players are still on a high from the achievement.
“It is now upto us to ensure we are as best prepared for the FIFA World Cup as possible and that will start by testing ourselves against the greatest team in the world.”
