Two of the North-east’s best known Junior clubs have agreed to merge.
Parkvale, who were formed in 1898, and FC Stoneywood, who have been on the go since 1981, have decided to join forces from the start of next season.
The new club – Stoneywood Parkvale – will compete in the Junior First Division (East).
Alan Stables, who had managed Parkvale for the last three years, will also lead the merged side.
Club chairman Ray Collins, who previously held the same position with FC Stoneywood, said: “We are hoping the merger will help us eventually become one of the major forces in Junior football. We are all excited by the move.”
He added: “It was clear something needed to be done to ensure the name of Stoneywood stayed at the forefront of Junior football.
“We have a great set-up, with a new ground in Stoneywood.”
