Formartine United’s new signing Ryan Stott believes his experience of winning trophies can help his new club challenge for honours again next season.
The attacker has joined the Pitmedden side from rivals Cove Rangers and has penned a two-year deal at North Lodge Park.
Stott helped Cove win the Highland League and the Aberdeenshire Shield in the recently concluded season, and also won the Highland League Cup with the Aberdeen side in the 2016-17 season.
During his first spell with the club he helped them win the Highland League in 2013 with a goal in the final day decider against Formartine. Stott believes his winning mentality can help United compete for trophies next campaign as they look to win the Highland League for the first time since entering the league in 2009.
He said: “I think adding my experiences then we can win more trophies for the club.
“Having won titles with Cove and cup competitions, I would like to think I can pass on what I’ve experienced with winning the league and that can brush off on the lads here.”
However, this season was a good one for Formartine as well as they finished second in the league with Paul Lawson and Russell Anderson guiding them to the Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup and the Highland League Cup.
Stott believes those successes show there is a winning mentality at United.
He added: “Being defending champions in the Aberdeenshire Cup and the Highland League Cup shows we all have the mentality for winning.
“And we want to add more winning experience to the mix next season.”
Stott is delighted to be joining Formartine and says he felt like he needed a “new challenge”.
He also revealed that getting to work with player-manager Lawson and assistant Anderson was one of the reasons why he has joined United.
He said: “I’m very pleased to join the club.
“The club has grown year on year and have been close in the Highland League each season.
“So I would like to be part of the next few years and see what we can achieve.
“I felt that I needed a new challenge and the management was a huge plus point as to why I signed.”
Stott has also been hugely impressed by the quality within the Formartine ranks.
He said: “The squad has quality all over it.
“The spine of the squad has vast experience and I hope that I can add to that.”
