Sheran praises 10-man Cove after Buckie win

Cove Rangers' manager John Sheran.

Manager John Sheran hailed Cove Rangers’ “fantastic” performance to beat Buckie Thistle with 10 men.

The champions won 2-0 at Balmoral Stadium to make it three wins from three games in the Highland League.

Cove had Jordan MacRae sent off in the first half for an elbow on Lewis MacKinnon.

But the Granite City team recovered to win with second half strikes from Mitch Megginson and Paul McManus. Sheran said: “I thought once Jordan was sent off, the 10 men played fantastically.

“We had a couple of chances before half-time and played some fantastic football in the second half. We kept the ball well and scored two really good goals.

“We needed a good start because we’ve had three difficult games.

“To get the win was really good and it starts to build momentum.”

On the red card for MacRae he said: “It’s one of those that I’ve seen both ways, you just take a view of who was leading with their elbow.

“It happens, but after that the boys stepped up to the mark and did the business.”

Buckie boss Graeme Stewart said: “I’m disappointed with the score because I think they were there for the taking.

“We frustrated them a lot in the first half and tactically they did well.

“In the second half, we sat off them too much and we gave away two sloppy goals which killed the game.

“It’s disappointing but the difference between the two teams was that their strikers had two chances and two goals scored.

“Our strikers had chances and didn’t score.”
