Cove Rangers sent out a statement of intent to the rest of the Highland League by beating Brora Rangers 2-1 at Dudgeon Park.
Mitch Megginson scored a penalty and another goal in the first half to give the Aberdeen side the lead.
Grant Munro’s Cattachs struck back through Craig Campbell, but Cove held on.
Manager John Sheran said: “Over the 90 minutes we were the better team and created the better chances.
“We deserved to win the game on the basis of the chances created, and the way we played the game because we caused them a lot of problems at the back.
“I’m really happy, the boys did really well.”
The result leaves third placed Cove just three points off top spot in the Highland League table.
Due to Brora’s loss Buckie Thistle went back to the top on goal difference with a 5-2 triumph at Fort William with goals from Sam Urquhart (three), John McLeod and Declan Milne.
A David Booth treble and one from Lewis Davidson helped Turriff United beat Huntly 4-2 at Christie Park.
Inverurie Locos followed up their Aberdeenshire Shield victory with a 6-0 hammering of Rothes at Harlaw Park.
Fraserburgh edged Nairn County 2-0 at Station Park and Keith thrashed Strathspey Thistle 4-0 at Seafield Park.
In the Scottish Cup third round, Wick Academy lost 2-0 at Stirling Albion and Forres Mechanics were beaten 3-1 in their replay at Stenhousemuir.
