Highland Lawson delighted new boy Fraser managed to get off the mark

Formartine United will travel to Ireland to play Coleraine in the Irn-Bru Cup.

Formartine United player-manager Paul Lawson hailed new signing Gary Fraser after he netted twice in their 4-1 win against Nairn County.

Fraser’s goals along with strikes from Stuart Anderson and Andrew Greig secured an opening day Highland League win for the Pitmedden side at North Lodge Park, with Dylan Mackenzie scoring for Nairn.

Lawson said: “I’m delighted for Gary because it’s always good at a new team to get off the mark early on.

“He’s done that and his all-round performance was excellent as well.

“I also thought Kieran Lawrence was excellent, Stuart Anderson was excellent, Archie Macphee did a good job for us and Liam Burnett came on and did well.

“The back four were good and apart from one moment we looked solid.

“It was very pleasing because it was a really good performance from start to finish.

“We went a bit sloppy with their goal, but other than that I was very happy.”

Elsewhere, Fraserburgh beat Strathspey Thistle 5-1 at Bellslea.

Scott Barbour bagged a brace with Ryan Cowie, Gary Harris and Graham Johnston also netting for the Broch, John Cameron got Thistle’s consolation.

Turriff United won 3-2 against Huntly at Christie Park. David Ross, Ross Anderson and James Chalmers scored for Turra with Kai Ross and Reece McKeown on target for the hosts.

Lewis Dunbar, Leszek Nowosielski (2), Robert Scott, Robbie Allan, Dane Ballard and Michael Dunn scored as Deveronvale beat Lossiemouth 7-0 at Banff.

Rothes won 11-1 at home to Fort William and Brora Rangers won the North derby 2-0 against Wick Academy at Dudgeon Park.
