Huntly boss seeks calm water with cup victory

Charlie Charlesworth

Huntly boss Charlie Charlesworth insists tomorrow’s Highland League Cup tie with Strathspey Thistle is “must-win”.

The Black and Golds were thrashed 7-1 by Inverurie Locos on Wednesday and Charlesworth says they have to win in Grantown tomorrow in the first round of the cup.

He said: “It wasn’t a lack of effort from the guys but there was just a lack of quality with the players we’re missing.

“We’ll have some back for us tomorrow and it’s a must-win game for the club.”

Charlesworth admitted his own position could come under scrutiny, just three months after being appointed, if they are defeated by the Jags.

He added: “It’s like I’m steering the ship and whether I’m going into dry dock or out to sea I don’t know.

“Every position is open to scrutiny just now.”

Huntly will have captain Michael Clark and striker Gary McGowan back from suspension.

On-loan striker Matthew McDonald is back after being ineligible to face parent club Inverurie.
