Formartine United striker Garry Wood admits he’s relishing their latest derby clash with Inverurie Locos.
United travel to Harlaw Park tomorrow in what is sure to be a feisty Highland League encounter between two clubs who have never hidden their dislike for each other.
Wood said: “The rivalry between the clubs always adds a bit of spice to our matches.
“I’m not really clued up on why that is, but you are aware of it.
“The games at Harlaw Park are always among the toughest we face all season.
“This one will be even tougher because Locos managed to draw with Buckie in their last match.
“They will be keen to build on that by taking something from us as well.
“They also beat us last season, so we never take anything for granted when we play Locos.
“We beat them 2-1 earlier in the season but it was a fiercely contested game that could have gone either way.
“It helps that we are going there on the back of three league wins in a row after making a disappointing start to the campaign.”
United underlined just how well they are playing at the moment by hammering Huntly 8-0 at North Lodge Park in midweek.
Wood, who scored the opener in that match, said: “It was great to see our good play rewarded with so many goals.
“Every team goes through a bad spell at some stage of a season.
“Hopefully that’s our’s past and we can now concentrate on trying to put some pressure on Buckie at the top of the table.
“They are setting a hot pace and showed their quality with that amazing win over Brora earlier in the week.
“But we really clicked in the Huntly game and hopefully we will be able to keep that sort of form going in the weeks ahead.”
