Inverurie Locos keep up the heat on Cove with 3-0 win at Keith

Inverurie Locos manager Neil Cooper.

Inverurie Locos moved level on points with Cove Rangers at the top of the Highland League with a 3-0 win at Keith.

With Cove on Scottish Cup duty the Harlaw Park outfit took full advantage to keep the heat on at the summit of the table.

Prior to kick-off Locos gaffer Neil Cooper secured keeper Scott Mathieson on a contract extension until summer 2019.

The 23-year-old has played 80 games for the first team since debuting with a clean sheet at Banff in October 2014.

Mathieson was substitute against Keith, with Andy Reid starting in goals.

Cooper said: “Scott is the latest player to commit to what we are building here at the Locos.

“Scott will continue to provide cover and competition to Andy Reid and his application and workrate at training is first class”.

Locos grabbed the lead against Keith in the 12th minute through Andy Hunter.

In the 50th minute Jordan Leydon doubled their advantage with a superb strike from the edge of the penalty area.

A goal from Martin Laing in the 64th minute made it 3-0.

Meanwhile, Huntly fought back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Turriff United.

Scott Miller fired Turriff ahead in the 15th minute before David Donald levelled on the hour mark.

Mike Ewen grabbed a late winner with two minutes remaining.

Scott Davidson hit a hat-trick for Rothes in a 9-1 home defeat of Fort William.

Clachnacuddin won 3-2 away at Lossiemouth in a reduced league card.
