Buckie Thistle boss Graeme Stewart praised goalkeeper Lee Herbert after he was selected for the Scottish Schools’ Under-18 squad for next year’s Centenary Shield.
The Jags keeper, who attends Buckie High School, is in the squad for matches against Wales, England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in March and April.
Stewart said: “Lee worked so hard when he came in during the summer and we probably saw him as a back-up goalkeeper.
“But with Daniel Bell being injured, he has come in and his performances have been outstanding.
“He has improved so much already in his time with us and plays well beyond his years.
“He’s still got things to work on, but what 17-year-old doesn’t?
“We think he’s got a big future.
“He listens and takes things on board and doesn’t think he knows best like some young players.
“Lee and his family deserve all the credit because they support him really well and come to training and games.
“We are delighted with his progress. By all accounts, he was great in the trials and deserves to be selected.”
After two defeats, Buckie look to get back to winning ways tomorrow against Strathspey.
