Harlaw and Cults U13s met in the semi-final of the Esso Trophy at an extremely wet Groats Road.
The pitch narrowly passed inspection, thanks to great work by the groundsman before the kick-off, and the continuous downpour during the game did little to improve its condition.
In eight minutes the visitors took the lead. A corner on the right was flighted across goal by Lyle Innes and found the head of Reis Webster, whose strong effort beat Jack King.
Midway through the half the homesters found an equaliser after Stephen Holland rifled a low drive into the bottom of the net.
Cults were playing uphill now but began the half the better side.
The visitors regained the lead after 10 minutes when Lewis MacDonald fired the ball over the head of the keeper and into the net.
Back came Harlaw when Webster sent a strong drive into the top corner of the goal.
Harlaw took the lead for the first time with minutes to go.
A corner from the right saw two players nip in past the Cults defence and Dalgish appeared to get there first to squeeze the ball past the keeper.
Cults had to attack now, and when Dalglish broke away down the left near the end, he was brought down in the box. Lewis MacDonald scored from the spot.
There was no time for Cults to come back and Harlaw could progress into the final.
Both teams were a credit to their schools in really dreadful conditions. The schools meet on league duty on Saturday and if the encounter is anything like this then everyone is in for a treat.
