JONNY Hayes today insisted Aberdeen’s gruelling 4,887-mile journey to Kazakhstan will not derail their Europa League dream.
The Dons face an eight-hour flight ahead of next Thursday’s third qualifying round, first leg tie against current Kazakhstan league leaders Kairat Almaty.
It will be the longest distance ever travelled by a club in Europe.
The trip is reward for overcoming Croatians HNK Rijeka 5-2 on aggregate in the previous round.
The Dons will fly overnight on Tuesday to a destination further afield than Anchorage, Alaska (4,073 miles) and New York (3,280 miles).
Hayes said: “It will be a long flight but the club and the manager’s European preparations are immaculate.
“They will ensure we get enough rest and sleep on the plane so that we are ready.”
