Cove Rangers are on the trail of former Aberdeen striker Mitch Megginson.
It is understood the Highland League champions will move to sign Megginson when his contract with Alloa Athletic runs out at the weekend.
The capture of Megginson, who played at the top level with the Dons and also in the Championship for Alloa and Raith Rovers, would be a major coup for Cove as they bid to retain their title next season.
It is known that Cove are searching for a quality replacement for top scorer Daryl Nicol.
Megginson, whose father, Mike, played for Cove, is still only 23 but has managed more than 200 appearances for various clubs in the SPFL.
He made his debut for Aberdeen in August 2009, in their ill-fated Europa League clash with Czech Republic side Sigma Olomouc at Pittodrie.
The Scotland youth international made 50 starts in total and spent periods on loan to Arbroath, Brechin City and Alloa before he was released by Derek McInnes in the summer of 2013.
