A MISSING plane has crashed near a Scottish village today.
The light aircraft was due to land at Dundee Airport at noon, but was reported lost four miles west of its destination.
Police Scotland has this afternoon located the plane near the village of Abernyte, Perthshire.
Aberdeen Coastguard and the RAF launched crews in search for the plane.
There were two people on board the flight and their condition is unknown.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: “We received reports at 12.23pm that communications had been lost.
“The aircraft was making an easterly approach to Dundee Airport and was approximately four miles west of the runway when communication was lost.”
Aberdeen Coastguard was co-ordinating the search.
Two RNLI lifeboats from Broughty Ferry, coastguard rescue teams from Montrose, Carnoustie, Arbroath and St Andrews, and a coastguard rescue helicopter from Inverness were sent to search the Firth of Tay.
