Aberdeen may be top of the table but their major chance of success is winning a trophy this season as they are strong enough to lift silverware.
Topping the Premiership as the only top-flight team with a 100% record is a fantastic start.
It hammers home that the Reds have strengthened after a summer of uncertainty and upheaval.
The Dons are two points clear of defending champions Celtic but the Parkhead side have not been beaten domestically for more than a year and finished 30 points ahead of second-placed Aberdeen last season.
To overcome Celtic in the league is going to be very difficult, but obviously should not be discounted. However, finishing second and closing that 30-point chasm from last season should be the target for now.
In any season Aberdeen’s best opportunity for glory is winning a cup and this new-look squad are certainly capable of lifting silverware.
After a summer where key players left Pittodrie and boss Derek McInnes looked to be heading for Sunderland this strong start will give the Red Army real optimism for the campaign ahead.
Aberdeen lost three key players in Jonny Hayes, Niall McGinn and Ryan Jack. There was always going to be question marks after their exits but the biggest question mark in the summer was where the manager was going to go.
Had he moved to Sunderland it would have disrupted everything.
McInnes staying at Pittodrie has been the foundation for this impressive start and the club are also in a solid financial position to support the manager in his rebuilding job. That has had a major impact.
This is a different type of Aberdeen team. You are not looking at individual players like Hayes or McGinn.
Now there are a group of players who can turn games such as Gary Mackay-Steven, Stevie May, Greg Stewart, Ryan Christie, Greg Tansey and Nicky Maynard. The quality is there but so is the fight as the Dons had to battle to get the 4-3 win at Partick Thistle.
However, the loss of three goals is a concern. They cannot afford that when travelling to Murrayfield to face Hearts after the international break.
