A LITTLE girl who turns nine next week is foregoing presents for her big day – instead donating cash to help sick children.
Wee Ashley Fagan, whose ninth birthday is on Monday, is sacrificing gifts in favour of donations to sick kids charity The ARCHIE Foundation.
Ashley’s mum, Catherine Mcneice, said that when asked what she might like for her birthday Ashley decided she had enough toys, and would like to help people instead.
Mum-of-four Catherine, 36, who lives in the Stoneywood area of Aberdeen, said: “She will not even let myself or her dad buy her a present – we have to donate to charity.”
Catherine said the family – dad Billy, 36, and siblings Luke, 17, Danielle, 15, and Jordan, 13 – were thrilled at Ashley’s big-hearted gesture.
Having initially set a £100 fundraising target, Ashley has already more than trebled it.
She currently has more than £300 donated via JustGiving in less than a week, and planned to collect cash at Catherine’s work at Aker Solutions and at her birthday party.
Emma Slesser, fundraising manager at ARCHIE, said: “As Ashley has not been in hospital herself, we are hugely impressed with her ability to ‘put herself in others shoes’ and think of the children who are currently patients in hospital. We are delighted that she has decided to fundraise for The ARCHIE Foundation and thank her so much for her generosity.
Ashley’s JustGiving page will remain active for a week after her birthday at www.justgiving.com/Catherine-Mcneice
