A woman who died after a fire at a sheltered housing complex has been named as Elsie Riddell.
The 86-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after emergency services were alerted to an incident at about 5.35pm yesterday within the Nether Davah House sheltered housing complex in Inverurie.
At least 10 firefighters were called to the blaze which started in the kitchen.
The fire was extinguished by 6pm and crews remained at the scene until 10pm.
Ms Riddell was taken to hospital for treatment, however later died from her injuries.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond, who is leading inquiries, said: “An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
“Our thoughts are with Elsie’s family at this very sad time.”
