Offshore windfarm developer commits to £3 million North-east causes

An offshore windfarm developer has committed to investing £3 million into North-east causes.

Vattenfall, behind the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), will set aside £150,000 a year for the 20-year lifetime of the project.

The 11-turbine scheme is being built off the coast of the city and once operational will generate 70% of Aberdeen’s domestic electricity demand and 23% of total demand.

Adam Ezzamel, EOWDC project director, said: “Vattenfall wants the EOWDC fund to support communities in Aberdeen and the Shire for the lifetime of the wind farm, which is expected to be around 20 years.”
