ABERDEEN City Council finance convener Willie Young has resigned as secretary of the city’s Labour group.
Cllr Young made the announcement at a meeting with group members last night, stating that he wants to spend more time focussing on his property development firm Deeview Homes Ltd.
The city’s finance convener, who has held the secretary position for eight years, is to be replaced by Councillor Gordon Graham.
Cllr Graham represents the Mastrick and Northfield areas of the city, and members unanimously backed him to take up the post.
Today Cllr Young said: “I need to focus more on my business and this will allow me to do this.
“I’m also a solicitor and I’m going to go back to that as well.”
As secretary of the Labour group, Cllr Young’s role has included overseeing and distributing council reports for committee meetings.
Cllr Graham said he was “delighted” to be taking over, adding: “I am very pleased.”
