A violent racist has been jailed after performing a Nazi salute and launching verbal abuse at a foreign shop worker who caught him stealing a £6 bottle of wine.
David Patterson unleashed a tirade of racial comments towards the Portuguese man at Sainsbury’s in Union Street on June 25 and declared “Scotland for the whites”.
The 53-year-old yob also spat at two of his victim’s colleagues.
Just months earlier, the thug assaulted another man on Union Street, kicking and stamping on his head.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday fiscal depute Colin Neilson said Patterson, when challenged by shop staff in Sainsbury’s who caught him stealing a £6 bottle of wine, launched into a bigoted rant in which he said to a “dark-skinned” employee “Scotland for the whites” and “we’re coming for you”. He added: “He was also seen to make a Nazi salute.”

Mr Neilson said Patterson also got into an argument with a man outside Co-op on Union Street at around 10.50pm on February 1 and ended up assaulting him.
He added: “The accused pushed the man to the ground and kicked him in the head and chest.”
Patterson then started to walk away before turning back and kicking and stamping on the man again.
He was left with soft tissue damage to his face. Defence agent Mike Monro said alcohol had played a part in all the offences.
He added: “He takes the bottle of wine, remonstrates with the staff and comes out with this tirade of abuse for which he is most apologetic.”
In relation to the assault, he said the men were known to each other and his client had also been struck.
Patterson, a prisoner of HMP Grampian, pled guilty to assault to injury and danger of life at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
He also admitted stealing a bottle of wine, making racial remarks, gesticulating towards a shop employee and spitting at two other members of staff.
Sheriff William Summers jailed him for a total of three years.
