More than 2,400 North-east newborns have benefited from receiving a Baby Box, according to new figures.
The statistics released by the Scottish Government show that since being introduced last year the parents of 2,493 babies have been given a box.
The boxes contain items for parents and babies alike, such as clothes, a bath towel, changing mat and ear thermometer.
The box itself also doubles as a bed for a newborn – containing a mattress, mattress protector and fitted sheet – to provide a safe and warm place for infants to sleep.
MSP for Aberdeen Central Kevin Stewart welcomed the figures. He said: “We can be proud that 2,493 boxes have already been given to parents across Grampian.
“This news shows how popular the Baby Box is among families in every corner of the country and I hope expectant parents are remembering to register for one through their midwife.”
