Police are appealing for information after a woman in her 80s was distracted while her bank card was stolen and was subsequently used to withdraw £300.
The incident took place at Asda car park, Edgar Road, Elgin, on Sunday, May 15, at around 2.30pm.
The woman was approached by a man believed to be in his 40s. He spoke to her and during this time her purse was stolen resulting in the money being withdrawn.
The man had dark hair and was wearing a navy blue suit and white shirt and spoke with a foreign accent.
Pc Paige MacDonald, who is investigating the theft, said: “We are carrying out inquiries to trace the person responsible for this crime, which has included reviewing CCTV, however we are appealing to the public for information that could assist us with our investigation.
“Additionally, we want to warn the public to be aware of criminals using distraction methods when committing thefts.
“When using bank cards, make sure your pin is covered from view and keep your belongings secure.”
