Gallery: Rabbits hop into the frame

Bun-Bun, the 18lb. British Giant, is thought to the biggest rabbit in Scotland by its owners, Mr and Mrs Dag Reppe, West Cookney, Netherly, and their daughter, Turid (21).
© AJL1984 - Jane Mackie (pictured) You will have undoubtedly heard the story of the black sheep, and you will probably also be aware of the advantages of meeting a black cat on your travels. But now we can reveal the sorry tale of the missing black rabbit found only days ago roaming the streets of Aberdeen. Medical student Jane Mackie, said last night: "My dad and our neighbour Mrs Eleanor Ewen saw him on the street last Thursday and he ran under our car. But they managed to get him out, and we've had him in our house ever since. Our tropical fish don't mind at all, but the family cat Smokey, has had to be kept away from him, because he doesn't know what a rabbit is, and we fear the worst." Jane and the rest of the family have since checked with their neighbours and friends who own pet bunnies, but without finding this one's master or mistress. The mystery itinerant is described as either black or very dark brown with lighter brown paws and a light patch behind the ears."

Because like most sought after women, Thumper knew the ropes. No payment, no photos and she went into hiding at the back of her cage. But kind words, a little carrot and a crowd of admirers soon brought the stubborn rabbit out to be photographed with her fans at Seaton pre-school day centre. Thumper is the centre's pet, totally spoiled by the youngsters who take care of her. She wanders around the centre nibbling at table legs and jig saws and she is only stopped when she hops up on to the windows to have a chew at the pot plants.

© AJL1991 - Gary Robertson (pictured) North-east rabbit breeder and exhibitor Gary Robertson has become only the second Scot in 70 years to win the Scottish, English and Dutch Rabbit Club's coveted Gold Cup. And his prizewinning young buck gained the award after only two years of club competition. Some breeders have tried for decades to win the cup but success depends on entering a rabbit with markings as close as possible to the definitive English butterfly smut pattern. Aberdeen born Gary (37) is pool supervisor at Ellon and lives in the town's Modley Avenue. He won the Gold Cup at the recent National English Rabbit Show at Thirsk, Yorkshire. And the big success came only weeks after the same rabbit won another major award - to keep it in the family. The buck bounced off with the Gary and Sheila Robertson Rosebowl as best in show for under five month stock at the Scottish championship show in Dunfermline."

For she has been reunited with her runaway rabbit - which bunny hopped to freedom last weekend over a three foot high garden gate. Bunny the rabbit was spotted dodging the traffic on busy Beechgrove Terrace and rescued by neighbour Sheila MacLeod. After a few days holed up in Sheila's basement Bunny was safely back with 19 month old Hannah in time for Easter."

There’s no animal more synonymous with Easter than the adorable bunny.

So to five everyone a little boost today, we’ve featured a selection of some of our favourite rabbit pictures form our archives.
