This week’s Aberdonian has taken a look back at archive images of Johnston Gardens.

With more people walking in the city due to the Covid lockdown, this park has seen its popularity surge in the past 12 months.

1976: Little but good although it only extends to three acres Johnston Gardens is one of the loveliest parks in Aberdeen. Its streams, pools, rocks and waterfalls give it an all-the-year round charm, and there are large groups of primulas and herbaceous plants.
1981: A moment to lock up the bikes before these children get ready to enjoy the magic of the gardens.

1986: The snowfall of the last two days has cast a magic spell on Johnston Gardens in the west end of Aberdeen. Bustling traffic may have turned the snow into slush on the streets but this quiet park has been transformed into a winter wonderland.
1981: Lucky duck this contented resident of the Johnston Garden pond, enjoying a paddle with a younger playmate, is the happy outcome of a rescue story.
