Students are being urged to find out if they are eligible for a refund on their TV licence.
As universities approach the end of term TV Licencing has said that more than 26,000 students in the north-east could get a £50 refund.
The organisation has changed the way it calculates refunds meaning if students bought their licence in October and move out in May they could claim some cash back.
To qualify, the students need to be leaving halls or another address and moving into a licensed address.
Fergus Reid, spokesperson for TV Licensing in Scotland, said: “We’re encouraging all eligible students to take up the refund, which is quick and easy to apply for.
“It’s important students buy a TV Licence when starting university to take advantage of the flexible payment options and avoid a fine of up to £1,000.”
Students have been asked to change their address or apply for the refund by visiting www.tvlicensing.co.uk/studentinfo, or calling 0300 790 6113.
