A north-east community leader has signalled the official start of construction for a new community campus.
Building work on a £55 million facility in Inverurie is now under way. The Provost of Aberdeenshire Bill Howatson took part in a sod cutting ceremony yesterday.
He said: “I am delighted that the building work, which will see a fantastic new community campus in Inverurie, is now under way.
“Generations of schoolchildren will now use this complex. There are also indoor and outdoor sports facilities which make this a real community building which I hope will be enjoyed by all.”
The campus will be built on three storeys and will house Inverurie Academy, St Andrew’s Primary and community sports facilities – which will include outdoor and indoor pitches, a six- lane swimming pool and a health centre.
Gillian Owen, Aberdeenshire Council’s education and children’s services committee chairwoman, said: “It is brilliant news that construction has started on this new community campus.”
