Staff at a North-east hotel got a surprise after TV motorbike star Guy Martin zoomed by for breakfast.
The popular personality stopped at the Anchor Hotel in Johnshaven during his gruelling attempt to cycle 4,802 miles around the British coast.
Best known for the Channel 4 programme Speed with Guy Martin, the 35-year-old is trying to pedal around Britain in under 22 days.
Gary Thompson, owner and chef of the Anchor Hotel, said his celebrity guest was doubly surprising because he’d been watching the motorcycle racer on TV the night before.
Gary, 52, said: “At first it was his girlfriend that popped in and asked if they could come in for breakfast. When he walked through the doors with the camera crew, I recognised him straight away.
“I had actually been watching the TV programme Our Guy in China the night before so it was a bit surreal to see him walk through the door. We were chatting about cycling and he was a really nice bloke.”
In a video message recorded before starting his challenge Guy said: “We’ve got a big job on. Record’s stood since 1984, I’m going to try and break it. I’m setting off to try to break the record of pedalling around the circumference of England, Scotland and Wales. That’s what I’m doing. The record, as it stands, is 22 days, I’m going to try and do it in less than that. The record’s stood since 1984. No one’s broken it, no one’s come near it, so, it all starts here.
“It’s further than you’d think. It’s 4,802 miles, that’s what the official record distance is, 4,802.”
Guy isn’t the first celebrity to sample food at the Johnshaven eatery.
Gary says in the past singing sensation Susan Boyle and former Scottish international footballer Ally McCoist both dropped by.
Gary added: “I believe it’s the food that brings in the celebrities. Susan Boyle was in for the food as her PA had eaten here before. We think Guy was in for the food too as we got told that they actually asked someone where we were located.”
