North-east climber taken to hospital after falling several hundred feet

A climber has been taken to hospital to be treated for a suspected broken thigh bone after falling in the hills.

Search and rescue teams were called to the man who had fallen at Loch Muick, near Ballater, at around noon yesterday.

They were joined by mountain rescue teams from Braemar and Aberdeen, successfully rescuing him at around 5pm.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “He was taken off the hill and taken to ARI with a suspected broken femur.”

Braemar Mountain Rescue Team said the man had fallen several hundred feet and received some treatment at the scene.

He was then stretchered off the steep gulley and taken to hospital.
