Time is running out for board game lovers to choose which iconic north-east symbols will feature in the newest edition of Aberdeen Monopoly.
The usual playing pieces will be replaced by items which are synonymous with the area when the game goes on sale later this year.
A public poll, which will see the six customised tokens which the public believe best define the city chosen from a shortlist of a possible 20, will close just before midnight tomorrow.
The Evening Express previously reported that the seagull piece had flown into the lead, proving a major hit with voters.
Now the game’s maker Winning Moves UK, which will produce the title under licence from Hasbro, admitted they have been stunned by the polling results – particularly as one of the city harbour’s renowned bottlenose dolphins is set to miss out on a place as a token in the new version.
Aberdeen may be one of Europe’s top destinations for spotting bottlenose dolphins – but it currently lies seventh in the poll.
Bosses have urged the public to make sure they vote in time so their preferred north-east symbols make the final cut.
Jenny Lau, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, said: “Six tokens that define Aberdeen will feature in the game.
“Surprisingly a dolphin is currently in seventh place which comes as a total surprise.
“Thank you to everyone who has voted. Please do keep suggestions coming.”

She added that since the new version of the game was officially announced last month, the level of public interest has “exceeded all expectations”.
As well as the game tokens, the public have also been voting on board spaces and property cards, which are all being customised.
Famous Monopoly streets such as Mayfair and Park Lane are being replaced in favour of their north-east counterparts.
Marischal College has polled well, while Aberdeen FC has also proved a big hit with voters.
Even the Evening Express will feature, taking the space of Fleet Street in the revamped boardgame.
The game, which is currently in development, is scheduled to go on sale at most major retailers in October this year, just in time for Christmas.
Regular Monopoly figures have included a Scottie dog, top hat, thimble, boot, battleship and a racing car.
