Enjoy Music Festival organisers are confident the popular event will be bigger and better than ever before.
Now in its fourth year, Enjoy Music is running over two days, starting today, at Hazlehead Park.
For the first time there will also be a big top arena completely covering the main stage area.
The party begins at 4pm today with a host of acts including Brit rock greats Cast and a DJ set from Faithless.
It continues tomorrow with DJ sets from chart toppers Sigma and Basement Jaxx, and a performance by Starsailor.
Enjoy Music Festival organiser Russell Aitchison thanked fans for the backing that has allowed them to add an extra day.
He said: “Enjoy Music Festival has got bigger and better each year.
“It was always the intention when we started the festival to expand it to two days.
“However, our motto has been to build it one step at a time and not go too big too soon. We were really well organised in the first year and have then expanded it year on year.
“You have to set reasonable targets and do your homework. This is what we have been building up to – this is the big one for us.”
Enjoy Music Festival began in 2015 and last year 6,000 people flocked to Hazlehead Park to watch a strong bill topped by alt rock legends Primal Scream.
Russell said: “The great thing is Aberdeen seems to be on the rise again. The city is buzzing again with the oil picking up and is riding on a wave of positivity.
“Enjoy Music Festival can be part of that as everyone who comes along will enjoy it.
“Aberdeen doesn’t have any other festival so why make it one for the few? It should be for the many.”
The Enjoy Music Festival will also have a family entertainment area, food village and fun fair. Regular buses are also available to shuttle music fans back and forth from the city centre.
Russell said: “There hadn’t been an opportunity in Aberdeen in the past where families with young kids could go and see music right on their doorstep.
“They don’t have to worry about travelling miles or camping.
“This year we have expanded the festival and have a giant big top arena for the main stage.
“We want to have great weather but if the weather is adverse every area is covered.”
He added: “You can stand on the main stage all day and drink at the bar at the main stage arena and not have to worry about the weather.
“We have got it all covered.”
Other acts confirmed for the festival are Mark Morriss (Bluetones), Miss Lucid and Alias Kid today with James Zabeila, Nigel Clark (Dodgy) and Goldie Lookin’ Chain tomorrow.
Aberdeen-based Wrestlezone will also provide family-friendly wrestling action.
Russell said: “Not only do we have great headline acts but there is something for everyone, right across the board.
“Cast were massive in the 1990s and had 10 Top 10 hits.
“Basement Jaxx are huge and Sigma are very current and have had lots of big hits including number ones.”
