Two people were taken to hospital with injuries after a crash on the A96.
The incident happened at 10.15am south of Huntly near Bainshole.
It involved a blue Vauxhall Astra and a white Vauxhall Corsa VXR.
The Astra had been travelling north while the Corsa was heading south.
One vehicle went off the road while the other blocked traffic.
The man, 21, driving the Astra was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious but non life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile the woman, 23, driving the Corsa was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
There were no passengers.
The force sealed off the road and diversions were in place for more than three hours.
Road Policing Constable Alexander Bowser-Riley said: “I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle on the A96 prior to the incident to contact Police Scotland on 101.
“I would also like to thank the various members of the public who stopped to offer assistance and help both drivers immediately after the collision.
“Again, if any of these people have not spoken to police, I would ask them to make contact on 101.”
